1. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist Team Leader/Senior Underwriter in the underwriting and management of Commercial Lines portfolio to achieve sustainable underwriting profit and premium growth;Aim to achieve a good working understanding of risk exposures and policy terms and conditions. Take steps towards deep learning and specializing in two lines of business. Accept only risks which one can understand;Adhere to underwriting/corporate guidelines;Collaborate with Distribution to identify opportunities and strategies in support of growth in Commercial Lines segments and develop appropriate underwriting solutions for our intermediaries/insureds. This includes research and development of new products and initiatives to meet changing customer needs that align with our company’s interests.Collaborate with Distribution to bring in new business and maintain high renewal retention;Support Distribution in engaging with intermediaries/insureds and conduct regular account review with the aim of improving underwriting results and premium growth.Assist the Team Leader/Senior Underwriter to achieve the performance objectives of the team and maintain a high level of service;Participate in any other projects and tasks as assigned
2. EDUCATION / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONMandatory: Certification in General Insurance (CGI) and Health Insurance (HI)Diploma/Tertiary education and/or ACII or other insurance diploma is a plus
3. EXPERIENCE & ANY SPECIFIC SKILLS SET REQUIREDMinimum 4 years of experience in general insurance servicing and 3 years in underwriting commercial lines products;Positive and service oriented attitude; good negotiation skills;Hands on, pragmatic with some leadership experience
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain data analytics and visualisation tools to support all lines of business.Participate in technical pricing for a wide range of products, including both consumer and commercial segments.Conduct profitability analyses and provide insights to stakeholders on product performance and underwriting arrangements.Collaborate closely with underwriting, claims and other departments on portfolio analysis and pricing-related initiatives.Manage VP/MS rate setup for new and existing products, ensuring the accuracy of premium calculation.Assist in ad hoc actuarial related projects.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years working experience in non-life actuarial role.Graduate with a degree in Actuarial/Statistics/Mathematics.Prior experience in pricing, GLMs and portfolio monitoring / analytics.Familiar with Singapore insurance industry will be a strong advantage.Reserving knowledge is a plus.SAS, Radar or SQL experience is preferred.Self-motivated, independent and detail-oriented.
RESPONSIBILITIESSupport policy fulfilment for all Consumer Lines policies. Process new policies, renewal policies and endorsements within stipulated service standards including policy turnaround time and accuracy in policy documentation.Liaise with internal customers to complete policy processing and documentation. Undertake checker and approver roles within delegated authority. Participate in User Acceptance Testing for system enhancements, process improvements and defects.Assist on any other duties and activities when required.

The Underwriter/Senior Underwriter will report to the Head of Political & Financial Risk APAC. The role involves:Analysing & underwriting potential transactions in various different areas of structured credit finance, including but not limited to: Commodity Finance, Corporate Finance, Asset Finance, Sovereign Risk, Project Finance, Leverage Finance, Derivatives, Fund Finance, Acquisition Finance.Developing Sompo International’s business franchise in Asia.Participating in the decision process as to which transactions are accepted.Working with Group Risk Management, Actuarial & Claims functions as required.Assisting in debt workout and recovery operations.Portfolio Management.Involvement in risk strategy as part of the business planning process.

Finance Data and Process AutomationDrive and implement process enhancement initiatives to improve operational efficiency, reporting accuracy, controls and governance, including: a. Finance system implementations, upgrades and integrations. b. Automation of financial close processes, and optimization of data workflows to minimize manual efforts and maximize productivity. c. Financial ReportingPrepare and review the regulatory and statutory reporting in compliance with MAS requirements and IFRS 17 standards.Prepare and deliver accurate monthly financial reporting packages and group reporting submissions, in accordance with group reporting requirements and timelines.Assist with external and internal audits, including preparing detailed schedules, supporting documentation and timely responses to audit queries.
Requirements and QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance, Actuarial Science, Data Science or a related discipline.Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience in regulatory and financial reporting, process improvement and data analytics.Professional qualifications such as CA Singapore, ACCA, CPA, actuarial certifications, or data analytics credentials are highly desirable.Prior experience in insurance financial reporting or working with renowned audit firms is an advantage.
SkillsAbility to improve performance and efficiency through the implementation of effective business intelligence techniques and strategies.Experience in automation and/or scripting and coding languages (e.g. VBA, R, Python).Able to work with multiple data sources using tools like Excel, SAS, SQL, Power BI, is an added advantage.Knowledge of ERP accounting systems e.g., SAP, SUN, or other equivalent systems.
