  • Regional Claims Manager, AVP  

    - Singapore

    Sompo is seeking an experienced APAC Regional Claims Manager, AVP to support the delivery of best-in-class claims for our clients across the region. The successful candidate will partner closely with clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders to design and deliver customized claims solutions aligned with Sompo’s industry-leading “White Glove Service Model.”
    The role requires strong client engagement, technical claims expertise, and the ability to translate claims insights into strategic value for clients.
    Key ResponsibilitiesBuild and manage strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, brokers, and business partners.Support business development by contributing to sales proposals, highlighting Sompo’s competitive claims service capabilities.Participate in client and broker presentations during new business acquisition and renewal processes.Ensure timely execution of client service agreements, and manage resolution of contract, billing, and funding related matters.Lead and coordinate client claim file review meetings, ensuring transparency, consistency, and proactive claims management.Assess client requirements and determine optimal claims handling structures, reporting preferences, and service infrastructure.Establish and maintain electronic Claim Handling Instructions and operational protocols.Monitor claims activity for key accounts to ensure adherence to agreed claims handling procedures and service standards.Maintain high standards of data integrity, including accurate claims coding and reporting.Collaborate with internal leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure claims service delivery consistently meets client expectations.Analyze claims data to identify trends, exposures, and portfolio insights, and work with business partners to develop proactive risk mitigation strategies.Review claims and provide settlement authority in accordance with delegated authority limits.Communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.Travel regionally as required to support client engagements and business activities.
    Required Skills & QualificationsMinimum 10 years of insurance claims experienceSolid technical knowledge across commercial lines of business, including Property, Casualty, Energy, Marine, and Professional Lines.Proven ability to build strong partnerships with clients, brokers, and internal teams in a complex, multinational environment.Strong negotiation, presentation, and communication skills, both written and verbal.Strategic, proactive mindset with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex claims and service challenges.Demonstrated capability to conduct and present financial and statistical claims analysis to clients and senior stakeholders.Excellent relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across functions.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

    The Consumer Distribution team in Asia plays a pivotal role in this journey. Acting as both architect and orchestrator, the team leads the strategic development and end-to-end management of the region’s most critical partnerships. These partnerships - spanning financial institutions, digital platforms, ecosystems, and affinity partners - serve as a catalyst for step-change growth. Through close collaboration with local operating markets, the team ensures timely execution, capability uplift, and a unified approach to partner engagement across Asia.
    Together, the new operating model and a strengthened Consumer Distribution capability are enabling Sompo Asia to accelerate its regional ambitions, deepen market penetration, and build a scalable, partnership-led growth engine for the future.
    Key AccountabilitiesThe role is anchored on two mission‑critical focus areas that directly support Sompo Asia’s Consumer growth agenda:
    1) Stewardship of a Multi‑Market Strategic Bancassurance PartnershipThis role leads the strategic business development agenda for long‑term bancassurance partnerships across key priority markets, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore. The position is accountable for driving sustainable growth within these partnerships by shaping and executing market‑specific and regional strategies that deepen distribution effectiveness, expand product penetration, and strengthen overall partnership performance.Acting as the central liaison between regional leadership, country teams, and banking partners, the role oversees the full partnership lifecycle - from opportunity identification and commercial negotiation to performance optimization and long‑term value creation. Core responsibilities include:Partnership Management & GrowthDevelop annual and multi‑year growth plans aligned with partnership objectives and strategic priorities.Identify and pursue new business opportunities to deepen penetration, expand product offerings, and increase revenue. Work closely with product teams and bank partners to design, refine, and launch competitive insurance propositions tailored to customer needs.Strengthen and manage day‑to‑day relationships with partner bank stakeholders across distribution, product, marketing, and senior leadership.
    Sales & Distribution EnablementCollaborate with bank leaders and local teams to implement channel development strategies (e.g., branch, digital, affluent, telemarketing).Drive sales performance by supporting local teams and bank channel teams with training, incentives, productivity programs, and sales activation initiatives.Monitor and analyze sales KPIs, identifying gaps and recommending corrective actions to strengthen overall distribution effectiveness.
    Product & Proposition DevelopmentCoordinate product performance reviews and drive enhancements to improve conversion, persistency, and profitability.
    Business Planning & Performance ManagementLead regular business reviews with the bank partner, including quarterly and annual performance assessments.Track and report sales metrics, pipeline trends, campaign effectiveness, and operational performance.Develop forecasts and contribute to budgeting, target-setting, and commercial negotiation cycles.
    Operational & Process ExcellenceEnsure smooth execution of partnership operations including onboarding, compliance, compensation processes, service delivery, and issue resolution.Work with cross-functional teams to enhance processes, remove friction points, and improve customer and partner experience.
    Marketing & Customer EngagementCo-create marketing campaigns and customer engagement programs with bank partners to stimulate demand and drive leads.Oversee campaign execution, track results, and ensure alignment with brand and regulatory standards.
    Governance, Compliance & Risk ManagementEnsure adherence to bancassurance governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and risk policies.Maintain high standards of partnership discipline through documentation, reporting, and audit readiness.
    Strategic Projects & InnovationLead or contribute to strategic initiatives such as digital distribution projects, capability upgrades, analytics enhancements, or new business models.Drive innovation to improve customer journeys, automate processes, or enhance the competitiveness of the partnership.
    2) Development and Management of High‑Potential Consumer Business PartnershipsBeyond bancassurance, the role is responsible for identifying, developing, and managing strategic partnerships in the Consumer Business space with specific focus on Accident & Health (A&H). This encompasses ecosystem partners, digital platforms, affinity organizations, and other distribution partners critical to accelerating Sompo Asia’s regional Consumer footprint. The role designs partnership propositions, orchestrates multi-market implementation, and drives sustainable revenue growth through a disciplined, partnership-led approach.Together, these responsibilities position the role as a central growth engine - strengthening Sompo’s presence across key markets, deepening distribution reach, and unlocking new Consumer insurance opportunities across Asia.
    Opportunity Sourcing & Origination: Identify, qualify, and prioritize opportunities with database owners (e.g., platforms, financial institutions, retailers, telcos, FinTechs), leveraging data-driven segmentation and customer insights.
    Value Proposition Design: Develop differentiated insurance propositions (embedded, affinity, bancassurance, D2C) aligned to partner/customer needs and lifecycle moments, including product fit, journey design, and Go To Market plans.
    Partnership Development: Lead end-to-end partner engagement from outreach, solutioning, and due diligence to negotiation and contract closure - across multiple APAC markets.
    Commercial Modeling: Build robust business cases (P&L, unit economics, Long Term Value of partnership, revenue shares, reinsurance structures) and define pricing/commission frameworks that balance partner value and profitability.
    Internal Orchestration: Work closely with Product, Actuarial, Reinsurance, Legal & Compliance, Data/Tech, Marketing, and Operations to deliver scalable regional solutions.
    Regulatory & Compliance: Understand and operate within insurance regulations, licensing constraints, data privacy laws, and distribution guidelines; ensure compliant operating models and marketing practices.
    Ecosystem Synergies: Source and integrate capabilities from insurtechs, reinsurers, TPAs, and data/tech vendors to accelerate speed-to-market and improve economics.
    Performance Management: Define KPIs, run pilots/experiments, monitor funnel metrics and portfolio health, and optimize conversion, claims ratio, and partner satisfaction.
    Stakeholder Communication: Prepare executive-ready materials (proposals, term sheets, investment cases) and provide regular updates on pipeline and performance.
    Skills and Experience Requirements:~15 years in general insurance (Bancassurance, Affinity, Partnership), with strong focus on distribution strategy, digital initiatives, and partner engagement. Known for thoughtful execution, collaborative leaderships, and ability to drive results across regional and local markets.
