Role OverviewThe University & Career Guidance Counsellor provides structured academic, university, and career guidance to students across Secondary, IGCSE, and IB Diploma programmes.The role focuses on supporting students in informed subject selection, university applications, and post-secondary pathway planning, while also contributing to student wellbeing and personal development in line with international school standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesUniversity & Career GuidanceProvide comprehensive university counselling to IGCSE and IB Diploma students, including course selection, university research, and application planning (e.g., UCAS, Common App, and direct applications).Guide students in personal statement development, portfolio preparation, and interview readiness.Prepare and coordinate school references and academic documentation.Track application timelines, scholarship opportunities, and global admissions requirements.Organise university fairs, career talks, and parent information sessions.Advise students on subject selection aligned with career aspirations and university entry requirements.Academic & Developmental GuidanceDesign and deliver structured guidance programmes aligned with Secondary, IGCSE, and IB pathways.Conduct individual and group advisory sessions focused on academic planning and future readiness.Support students in goal-setting, decision-making, and transition planning.Student Wellbeing & SafeguardingProvide first-line social-emotional support where required.Identify students requiring additional support and collaborate with teachers, parents, and school leadership.Maintain confidential records in line with safeguarding and data protection policies.Contribute to safeguarding and student protection initiatives.Community Engagement & ContributionConduct workshops for students and parents on university pathways, career readiness, and resilience.Participate in school events, assemblies, meetings, and professional development activities.Promote and embody the IB Learner Profile attributes and school values.
Candidate ProfileQualifications & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Counselling, Psychology, Education, Career Guidance, or a related discipline.Minimum 2 years of relevant full-time experience in university guidance, career counselling, or school counselling.Recognised counselling qualification or professional certification (where applicable).Demonstrated experience with university admissions processes across systems such as Singapore, UK, US, Australia, and Canada.Skills & CompetenciesHigh proficiency in spoken and written English.Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional discretion.ICT proficiency for database management and application tracking systems.
Preferred ExperienceExperience within an international school environment.Familiarity with IB and Cambridge curriculum frameworks.Experience supporting IGCSE and IB Diploma university applications.Training in safeguarding or child protection.
