  • The OpportunityFor years, our strength has been clear and respected: manufacturing excellence, personalization capability, and reliable delivery of card products at scale. That foundation remains critical but it is no longer sufficient on its own. The payments landscape has changed, and so have our customers.Today, customers no longer see issuance as a separate layer or downstream add-on. They expect a seamless, end-to-end capability — from issuing a card, to managing its lifecycle, to integrating it into digital wallets and real-world use cases. In enterprise and fintech engagements, digital issuance and lifecycle control are no longer differentiators; they are the baseline.
Without owning this layer, HBI faces a strategic ceiling. We risk being confined to lower-margin manufacturing roles, becoming dependent on third-party platforms for core customer workflows, and being excluded from higher-value, platform-led opportunities where long-term control and stickiness are created.
That is why HBI is building its own issuance and card management capability, not as an experiment, but as a core pillar of our future.
This initiative is still at 0 to 1. The architecture is forming. System boundaries and dependencies are being defined. The commercial intent is real, but it has not yet been fully translated into systems that can be deployed, operated, and sold with confidence.
At this stage, the biggest risk is not demand, the market is already there. The real risk is execution: building the wrong thing, building the right thing in the wrong order, or building something that works in theory but fails in practice.
That is why HBI is hiring a Technical Product Manager now.
This role exists to bring clarity where there is ambiguity, discipline where there is complexity, and coherence where multiple systems and teams intersect. It ensures that issuance is not just built, but built correctly—technically sound, commercially usable, and ready to scale at the right moment.
Role PurposeThe Technical Product Manager (TPM) is responsible for owning execution clarity and delivery outcomes for HBI’s issuance and card management infrastructure during its 0→1 phase.
This role exists to ensure that:Business intent is translated into buildable, integrated systemsEngineering effort is focused, sequenced, and commercially relevantIssuance moves from concept to reliable, deployable capability
The TPM focuses on building the product right — architecture, interfaces, sequencing, and delivery discipline — so that future commercial and product scaling can happen on a solid foundation.

Product Scope (Issuance 0→1)The TPM will own execution across the issuance domain, including:Digital issuing (virtual and physical card issuance flows)Card lifecycle management (issue, activate, suspend, replace, close)Readiness for wallet integration (where applicable)Integration with:Personalization (perso)ManufacturingDelivery and operational systemsInternal APIs and service interfaces required to support enterprise customersThis role ensures that issuance is end-to-end usable, not just technically complete.
Key Responsibilities1. Translate Strategy into Buildable SystemsConvert direction into:Clear functional requirementsSystem architecture and service boundariesAPI contracts and dependency mapsMake trade-offs explicit and visible (speed vs scalability, build vs integrate)
    2. Own Technical Execution with R&DAct as the single product interface to the regional R&D teamResolve ambiguity in requirements, edge cases, and sequencingDrive backlog prioritization, sprint inputs, and acceptance criteriaPrevent fragmented or theoretical builds that cannot be deployed
    3. Drive 0→1 Delivery DisciplineDefine MVP scope and success criteriaEnsure features reach commercial usability, not just development completionValidate integration across issuance, perso, and delivery before sign-offIdentify execution risks early and surface mitigation plans
    4. Be the Issuance Subject-Matter OwnerMaintain end-to-end understanding of issuance workflowsRepresent issuance status, risks, and readiness in FSC discussionsProvide fact-based clarity to leadership during decision-making
Preferred Experience & Profile6–10+ years in technical product management, solution architecture, or platform deliveryProven experience delivering 0→1 systems or platformsStrong understanding of:APIs, microservices, and system integrationPayments, cards, fintech, or regulated platforms (strongly preferred)Ability to work across Singapore ↔ China product and engineering teamsAble to operate credibly with both engineers and senior leadership

  • About the Role
We are building a merchant acquiring infrastructure from the ground up, and this is the foundational hire that will define how we do it. The Acquiring Product Lead will serve as the domain authority for our acquiring platform – setting the architectural direction, translating deep operational knowledge into product strategy, and building the team required to deliver it.
This is not a role for someone who understands acquiring from the outside. We need someone who understands how the full ecosystem connects operationally behind the scenes: from authorization flows and scheme connectivity to clearing, settlement, and reconciliation. That expertise is the foundation everything else is built on.
    What You’ll Do
Define and Own the Product ArchitectureDesign the end-to-end acquiring infrastructure architecture, covering authorization, network connectivity, clearing, settlement, and merchant operational flows.Translate deep domain knowledge into detailed product specifications that engineering teams can build against.Establish the operational framework and design principles for a robust, scalable acquiring platform.Ensure the infrastructure is designed holistically – from authorization to settlement – avoiding fragmented development.
Build and Lead the TPM FunctionIdentify the Technical Product Manager (TPM) capabilities required to execute the infrastructure roadmap.Recruit, onboard, and develop a team of TPMs Define clear ownership across infrastructure components and ensure effective cross-team coordination.Act as the connective layer between product vision and engineering execution in Nanjing.
Drive Cross-Functional AlignmentWork closely with engineering leadership to ensure product architecture translates accurately into technical implementation.Maintain alignment between business requirements, regulatory considerations, and technical delivery.Manage dependencies across scheme integrations, internal systems, and third-party connectivity.
Establish Scheme and Network ConnectivityLead scheme integration efforts with Visa, Mastercard, and other networks, including routing configuration and certification processes.Ensure compliance with scheme requirements at the infrastructure level.Define the connectivity architecture between merchants, the acquiring platform, card networks, and issuing banks.
    What We’re Looking For
Essential: Deep Domain Expertise in AcquiringCandidates must have hands-on, operational expertise across the full acquiring stack. The understanding we require goes beyond product familiarity – it is the internals of how systems connect and operate.
Authorization flows between merchants, acquirers, card networks, and issuing banks – including message formats, routing logic, and response handling.Scheme integration and network connectivity – including Visa and Mastercard technical certification, routing configuration, and compliance requirements.Clearing and settlement processes – including reconciliation across schemes, acquiring banks, and merchant accounts.Merchant onboarding and operational flows at the infrastructure level.ISO 8583, ISO 20022, or equivalent messaging standards as applied in acquiring contexts.
Leadership and Team-Building ExperienceDemonstrated ability to build product or TPM functions from scratch or in early-stage environments.Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing technical product or program managers.Comfortable operating as both a hands-on contributor and a team leader, particularly in the early stages of a build.
Technical CredibilityAbility to engage with engineering teams at a technical level – reviewing architecture proposals, identifying gaps, and shaping implementation decisions.Experience working across distributed engineering teams and managing cross-timezone delivery.Familiarity with cloud-based payment infrastructure and modern platform design patterns.
Communication and Stakeholder ManagementAble to communicate complex technical and operational requirements clearly to engineering teams, business stakeholders, and senior leadership.Comfortable working across Singapore, Malaysia, and Nanjing in a matrixed, cross-functional environment.
    Preferred Background
We are open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds, provided the domain expertise is genuine. Relevant backgrounds may include:
Acquiring banks or processors – in product, technical, or operations roles.Card scheme organisations – in technical connectivity, scheme management, or product roles.Payment technology companies – building or managing acquiring infrastructure or platform products.Financial infrastructure fintechs – with direct involvement in acquiring stack development.
    Team Structure
The Acquiring Infrastructure function follows a product-led operating model, with this role at its centre.
Acquiring Product Lead - Defines infrastructure architecture, product strategy, and operational framework. Leads the TPM build-out.Technical Product Managers - Translates architecture into executable workstreams. Manages technical requirements and engineering coordination.Engineering Team - Platform development, system integration, and infrastructure implementation.
    Why This Role Matters
This hire sits at the centre of our acquiring infrastructure programme. The decisions made at the product architecture level will determine whether we build a genuinely capable, scalable acquiring platform – or one that requires costly rework later.
You will have the authority, the scope, and the mandate to build this correctly from day one. This is a rare opportunity to define acquiring infrastructure at the foundational level, with the support to hire the team around you and the engineering resources to deliver it.
