  • Job Description Duke-NUS Medical School (Duke-NUS), Singapore’s only graduate-entry medical school, was established as a landmark collaboration between two world-ranking institutions of higher education – Duke University and National University of Singapore. Duke-NUS provides innovative education and impactful research to enhance the practice of medicine in Singapore and beyond. The School also has strong research ties with Singapore Health Services (SingHealth), one of Singapore’s major healthcare providers, other major research institutions in Singapore, and with Duke University.
    The Programme in Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders (CVMD) is one of the Signature Research Programmes in Duke-NUS. The overarching aim of the Programme is to define the molecular mechanisms underlying human health and disease and to discover new approaches to prevent, diagnose and treat cardio-metabolic illnesses.     CVMD is seeking to fill multiple tenure track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels. We are looking for candidates with an exceptional track record of research excellence and innovation, along with demonstrated leadership in managing a productive research team. Successful applicants will be expected to secure external research funding, mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and actively contribute to Duke-NUS’ core missions of teaching and research excellence. Candidates are required to hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree. Priority will be given to applicants with expertise in areas such as cellular and systemic metabolism, metabolomics/lipidomics, renal and cardiovascular biology and medicine, and integrative data sciences, including systems genetics and related fields.

    CSCB is seeking outstanding scientists who are driven by fundamental discoveries, interdisciplinary research, and intellectual curiosity, and who aspire to see their research ultimately inform better improved cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, while advancing as well as driving the frontiers of novel drug development. The successful applicant should be highly collaborative and demonstrates strong enthusiasm to actively engage with both basic scientists and clinicians across disciplines. They will be expected to address complex research questions and compelling healthcare concerns, work within multidisciplinary teams to advance the frontiers of science, and contribute meaningfully to the School’s and the nation’s key priority areas.
    Job Requirements Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree with a strong background and proven track record across the full spectrum of cancer and stem cell biology. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, RNA biology, therapeutics discovery, cancer immunology, functional genomics, computational and systems biology, cancer as an age-related disease, and emerging technologies. Excellence in any area of basic or discovery-driven cancer and stem cell research will be strongly considered.Research independence and demonstrated leadership in managing a productive research team.Exceptional track record in securing competitive research funding and publications in high impact scientific journals.Prior experience in translating research towards pre-clinical or commercial applications is desirable but not essential.Ability to mentor and train graduate students and postdoctoral research staff.

    The function of the AcademicProgrammes Management Department (“APMD”) is to drive and facilitate initiatives to advance Academic Medicine (“AM”) across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic MedicalCentre, to transformmedicine and improvepatients’ lives. As a memberof the Office, the successful candidatewill contribute to advancing SingHealth’s and the School’s strategic priorities.
    Reporting to the Team Lead for Academic Programmes Support and Evaluation, under the oversight of the Director (Clinician Support), APMD, the successful candidate will form part of a core team to facilitate review and approval of AM grants and philanthropic funded projects in research, education, innovation and global health, as well as support the development and implementation of faculty/resident/student talent grants and awards.
    The role involves planning, preparing, reviewing and approving AM funding requests and grant calls. To ensure strong financial stewardship and good corporate governance, the incumbent will need to be adept to SingHealth’s and Duke-NUS’s/NUS’ policies with regard to programme criteria, donations, disbursements and grant terms; and ensure rigorous and timely proposal review, monitoring of progress and outcomes reporting, financial reporting and proper stewardship of AM resources.
    The successful candidate will be involved in the activities of the larger SingHealth and Duke-NUS community and could be assigned dutiesincluding special projectand assignments, as a representative of the joint partnership to key stakeholders. The work responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: -
    Management and Administration of ACP Programme Funding GrantsReview of application forms,funding guidelines, assessment criteria and grant variation/extension requests.Facilitate, coordinate and provide inputs towards budget requests and review of proposals.Facilitate the domain review session(s) with the review panel alongside the domain secretariat.
    Management and Administration of AM Philanthropic Funded GrantsReview grant proposals for alignment with Donor’s Gift Purpose/Professorships and Academic Medicine strategic directions.Serve as a liaison between JOAM and applicants in the budgeting, preparation of grant proposals and facilitation of presentation at relevant approval meetings if required.Serve as an advisory role to stakeholders, advise on and facilitate grant variations/ extensions requests.
    Student Initiative & Grants: SingHealth Medical Student Talent Development Awards Forms part of the team that manages the SingHealth MedicalStudent Talent Development Award.
    Agreements for Research GrantsFacilitate and support the review and signing of agreements e.g. Research Collaboration Agreement (RCA) between Duke-NUS faculty and collaborators from the industry or Duke University. This is done through working with Duke-NUS faculty, administrators, Research Office(s), Duke-NUS Contracts and Industry Engagement Department and representative(s) from Duke University.

    - Singapore

    The candidate will provide secretariat and administrative support for faculty appointment, promotion, and tenure (APT) processes at Duke-NUS. Key responsibilities include collating and reviewing faculty dossiers to ensure completeness and compliance with documentation requirements, coordinating committee meetings, and facilitating timely reviews and approvals through the APT Committee, Dean’s Office, University Promotion and Tenure Committee (UPTC), Academic and Research Committee (ARC), and Governing Board (GB).
    The role also supports system and process enhancements, including the transition to NUS’s Promotions & Tenure (P&T) system, provision of user support, and updating of standard operating procedures (SOPs). The candidate will manage the faculty Mid-Term Advisory Review (MTAR) process by monitoring timely completion of all system-based review stages, offering user assistance, and working closely with the NUS MTAR Secretariat. In addition, the role provides secretariat support to the Distinguished and Emeritus Professors Selection Committee (DEPSC) for distinguished faculty appointments.
    Key Responsibilities
    Coordinate calls for dossier submissions, perform dossier checks, schedule APT Committee meetings and circulate dossiers for review by the committee.Provide secretariat support for APT Committee meetings, including taking minutes, collating and consolidating voting outcomes, and following up on any action items.Submit dossiers to UPTC for review and approval (where applicable) and address any queries.Prepare papers to seek Provost, ARC and/or GB’s approval, as required.Route approvals and communicate outcomes to relevant offices (e.g. Signature Research Programmes, Centres, Office of Academic Medicine, etc).Monitor timelines for 1st and 2nd Year faculty mentoring for Tenure Track Assistant Professors and send reminders to the relevant offices to conduct the mentoring reviews.Provide administrative and user-support for faculty-related platforms (e.g. P&T, MTAR and Faculty Profile), including access management and serving as the liaison between Duke-NUS faculty and NUS Secretariats managing the systems.Contribute to system upgrades and transitions, including requirements gathering, user acceptance testing (UAT) and SOP updates.Serve as DEPSC Secretariat for distinguished professorship and Provost’s Chair appointments, coordinating the review and approval processes through the DEPSC, Provost’s Office, ARC and GB.Perform other duties as assigned by the reporting manager.
    Job Qualifications
    Degree in Biological Sciences.Candidates with degrees in other disciplines who have at least 3 to 4 years of relevant experience in the biomedical research or healthcare environment will also be considered.Prior work experience in a research/academic environment would be advantageous.Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple assignments effectively.Possess strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and Adobe Acrobat (PDF), and experienced in using Zoom or similar platforms to host and manage meetings.Candidates with higher credentials and/or more extensive experience may be considered for a more senior appointment.
